What is Reflective Practice and how does it work?
Reflective Practice is a 100% opt-in, learner-initiated experience where meaningful reflections result in continuing education credit and potential lifelong and career-enhancing change.
An overview of how it works:
- Start with an experience or content that has a clinically-relevant topic
- Identify the context (case review, podcast episode, online course, coaching session, etc. ) and the concept/topic that inspired you to reflect
- Launch into an accredited library of reflective prompts — the reflective engine provides tailored prompts based on your contexts, credentials, topics and responses
- Write meaningful reflections in response to the prompts — the engine evaluates your responses and provides helpful feedback to further enhance your reflections
- Assess & calibrate the impact of your reflections—identify key competencies and select a strategy you will apply moving forward
- After submitting your reflections and confirming your self-assessment, earn 1 CME/CE credit
What is a reflection?
A reflection is a text-based note of how a topic or concept connects to your clinical practice & professional life. You may draw these connections based on a couple of different reflective perspectives: one that is introspective (critical thinking) and another that is forward-looking (applied thinking).
Your reflection must be:
- Relevant and meaningful: be specific and relate the concept to your clinical practice, plan how this learning inspiration might change your approach or challenge the idea related to your practice
- Substantive: a few sentences that describe your learning and thought process
- Unique and authentic: write an original response related to the topic/concept
How do I earn credits?
STEP 1:
- Engage with a learning moment that sparks your learning pathway (anything that inspired you to reflect on your practice or professional life)
- Select the context from the drop-down menu:
- Next, type the concept/topic that inspired you to reflect
STEP 2:
- You will be asked to type your first reflection - a recent learning experience that inspired you to reflect. This is based on the context and concept that sparked your learning.
- After submitting your first reflection, our evaluation engine provides feedback & suggestions. This feedback identifies personalized learning objectives, prompting you to evaluate your decision-making process, provide more details, and further analyze your experience to enhance your reflection.
STEP 3:
- After you have completed & saved your first reflection, our engine searches the accredited activity library to present a second reflective prompt. In your reflection response, you are encouraged to explore how you will apply this learning to your practice, based on the context, topic, and first reflection.
- Submit reflection #2 for more feedback from our evaluation engine:
STEP 4:
- Assess & Calibrate your reflections — in this step, you will review the key competencies identified from your reflections and select a strategy to apply to your practice
- After completing & confirming your reflection assessment, you will be able to claim your credits and certificate.
